Four Bulgarian tourists rescued off Lefkada, Greece

Four Bulgarian tourists were swept out to sea while stand‑up paddleboarding (SUP) near the Greek island of Lefkada, in the waters between the popular beaches of Agios Nikitas and Katisma. Strong winds and worsening weather prevented them from returning to shore.

The Greek coast guard dispatched a patrol boat and a nearby tourist vessel, the Agios Nikitas, which located the swimmers first and brought them aboard. All four were taken to the port of Agios Nikitas in good health, with no medical assistance required. Greek authorities warned that using SUP boards and other non‑motorised watercraft in the western Lefkada waters can be hazardous when winds and currents are strong.
