Four charged in fatal Kearns funeral shooting

Four individuals have been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred during a funeral in Kearns, Utah, on August 17. The incident, described by prosecutors as an escalation of an old quarrel between two families, resulted in the death of 18-year-old Vilisoni “Soni” Angilau and left his twin brother, Vita Angilau, critically injured.

Taitusi Kai Manatau, 17, has been charged as an adult with murder and two counts of discharging a firearm causing serious injury. His father, Afuhia Masiu Manatau, 45, faces similar murder and firearm discharge charges, along with counts of being a restricted person in possession of a gun, aggravated assault, and failing to stop for police. Prosecutors allege the father supplied the firearm used in the shooting.

Additionally, two 19-year-olds, Heneli Suli Grall and Tevita Siope Tonga Kofe, have been charged with second-degree felony obstruction of justice. Investigators allege Grall removed the firearm from the crime scene and Kofe assisted the teenage suspect in fleeing the area in a vehicle. The victims were visiting Utah from Seattle to attend the funeral at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse.
