Four children in Samarinda rescue endangered proboscis monkey
Four boys, aged between 10 and 13, successfully rescued an endangered proboscis monkey after finding it near a residential area in Samarinda, East Kalimantan. The children discovered the male primate, estimated to be 3 to 4 years old, appearing exhausted and disoriented near the Mahakam River.
Rather than attempting to keep the animal, the group reported the sighting to local authorities and the BKSDA (Natural Resources Conservation Agency) call center. BKSDA East Kalimantan officials praised the children's quick actions and environmental awareness, noting that their initiative allowed for the immediate evacuation of the protected species.
Initial medical examinations suggest the monkey is in relatively good health despite being separated from its group. Officials suspect the animal may have strayed from its forest habitat due to land clearing activities. The primate has been moved to a rehabilitation center for monitoring before being released back into its natural habitat.
