CISF personnel killed in Kathua shooting incident

Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were killed in a fratricide incident at the Sewa-II Hydroelectric Project in the Mashka area of Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir. The victims, identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, and Constables Rafiq Ahmed and Sandeep Kumar, succumbed to their injuries at an NHPC hospital in Himachal Pradesh.

The suspected shooter, a 2009-batch Head Constable identified as Avdesh Kumar Singh, allegedly opened fire with his service AK-47 rifle following a verbal altercation. Reports suggest the dispute may have involved the presence of the accused's child at the project site, though official investigations are ongoing. The accused was overpowered by colleagues and handed over to local police.

In response to the incident, the CISF has ordered a Court of Inquiry and an internal investigation. Additionally, the force announced plans to mandate specialized psychometric assessments for personnel in highly sensitive assignments, including those at the Parliament House Complex, to better identify psychological stress and mental health needs.
