Four corporations investigated for forest fires in West Kalimantan

Indonesian authorities are investigating four corporations in West Kalimantan for their alleged involvement in forest and land fires (karhutla). State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi confirmed that the police reported these ongoing investigations during a coordination meeting regarding fire management.

Prasetyo emphasized that the government will not tolerate land clearing practices by corporations that result in large-scale fires. He stated that if violations are proven, the government will not hesitate to take legal action, which may include the revocation of operational licenses to ensure a deterrent effect.

This enforcement push follows directives from President Prabowo Subianto, who has called for impartial law enforcement against both individuals and corporations responsible for intentional land burning. While investigations in West Kalimantan are confirmed, specific reports regarding corporate involvement in Central Kalimantan have not yet been formally presented in recent coordination meetings.
