Galați train collision kills four family members

A fatal train collision occurred at a railway crossing in the Ghidigeni commune, Galați County, Romania, resulting in the deaths of four family members. The victims include a 26-year-old woman, a 64-year-old man, a 45-year-old woman, and a 7-year-old girl.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the 26-year-old driver, who had held her driver's license for only three days, entered the crossing despite active light and acoustic warning signals. Surveillance footage captured the moment the InterRegio train, traveling on the Bucharest-Iași route, struck the minibus and pushed it approximately 200 to 400 meters along the tracks.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the crash, specifically why the 64-year-old man had swapped driving positions with the young woman shortly before the incident. Police have opened a criminal case for manslaughter due to negligence. The train driver tested negative for alcohol during a sobriety test.
