Four Drown and One Missing in Nizamabad's Sriramsagar Project Backwaters

On Sunday, a group of five youths visited the backwaters of the Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) near Nizamabad, Telangana, for sightseeing. Four of them were swept away by a strong current. The three recovered bodies were identified as Khalim (24), Najwat (24) and Azeem (24), all residents of Auto Nagar in Nizamabad. The fourth victim, 17‑year‑old Arhan, remains missing; search operations were halted after nightfall and are scheduled to resume.

Police, local fishermen, the National Disaster Response Force, fire‑service personnel and other officials launched a joint rescue effort. Nizamabad Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya and senior officers inspected the site and supervised the operation. Authorities warned the public against swimming, selfie‑taking or entering unknown waters during the monsoon, citing the danger of strong currents and deep water.

The incident highlights safety concerns in and around water‑body projects during the rainy season, and families of the victims have been offered condolences by local officials.
