Four farmers killed by FARC dissidents in Remedios, Antioquia

Armed members of the Frente 4 dissident faction of the FARC entered the El Bosque farm in the Las Camelias vereda of Remedios, Antioquia, and seized four people – farmer Efraín de Jesús Botero, his wife Rocío Silva and two farm workers. The captors demanded a ransom of 60 million Colombian pesos.

After more than 24 hours of search operations by the police, the Gaula unit and local volunteers, the bodies of all four victims were recovered. Botero, 62, was found dead along with his wife and the two workers. Police commander Ferley Puerto reported that the attackers set fire to two houses and left graffiti identifying the group. The alleged leader of the attack is Luis Antonio Montoya, alias Jhon Fiera.

Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events, the motives – whether territorial control or economic extortion – and to identify all responsible parties. The community of Remedios remains concerned about public security and the presence of illegal armed groups in the region.
