Four institutions sign environmental regeneration pact for Eastern Antioquia

Four major institutions—Cornare, the Corporación Empresarial del Oriente Antioqueño (CEO), the Universidad Católica de Oriente (UCO), and Masbosques—have signed the ‘Declaratoria por la Regeneración del Oriente Antioqueño’. The agreement was formalized on October 23, 2026, at the conclusion of the Glocal REGENERA Summit in Rionegro.

The alliance aims to shift regional strategy from passive conservation to active ecological restoration. Key objectives include protecting water resources as a central pillar of territorial planning, recovering degraded ecosystems, and reducing deforestation. The initiative emphasizes a multi-sector approach, integrating environmental, business, academic, governmental, and community efforts.

Beyond ecological goals, the declaration views regeneration as a process involving social, economic, and cultural dimensions. Proposed actions include improving the quality of regional water basins and establishing economic incentives for rural families who protect forests and water sources. The UCO will provide scientific and technical expertise to support municipal decision-making processes.
