Four Italian soldiers injured during NATO exercise in Latvia

Four Italian soldiers from the 11th Bersaglieri Regiment were injured during a NATO live-fire exercise at the Ādaži training area in Latvia. The incident occurred while the troops were participating in the NATO Forward Land Forces mission.

According to the Italian Ministry of Defense, the injury was caused by a non-automated firearm mounted on an Italian military vehicle, which discharged shots that struck another Italian vehicle carrying the four servicemen. Reports indicate the vehicle hit was a Dardo infantry fighting vehicle, which may have had its rear hatch open at the time.

The injured soldiers were immediately evacuated to a medical facility in Riga. While one soldier is reported to be in more serious condition than the others, all four are currently in stable condition and none are considered to be in life-threatening danger. Military authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause and dynamics of the accident.
