Four killed in Visconde do Rio Branco knife spree

On Tuesday, June 23, a 31‑year‑old man identified as Igor Moreira launched a series of attacks across Visconde do Rio Branco, Minas Gerais. He began by stabbing his partner, Thais Ramos Gonçalves, to death in their home, then stole a motorcycle and went on to kill three other men – Sidnei de Jesus Silva (31), Alexandre José Ribeiro (46), and Sérgio Adriane dos Santos (55) – in separate neighborhoods. A fifth person was wounded during the rampage. The perpetrator also robbed a market and a fuel station before being confronted by police in the Santa Clara district, where he was shot by Military Police, taken to hospital and later died from his injuries.

Local authorities opened investigations into the motives, considering a possible psychotic episode. The municipal government declared official mourning, and community leaders expressed deep sorrow. The case has drawn significant regional media attention and prompted forensic examinations by the Civil Police.
