Four killed in Linden-Soesdyke Highway crash in Guyana
Four people were killed and three others injured on Friday night, October 23, following a collision on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway at Long Creek. A motor car, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, crashed into the rear of a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) truck.
The deceased have been identified as Egburt Blair, 55; Tevin Thompson, 30; Dannel Darrell, 28; and Eon Jarvis, 40. Three other passengers, including a 43-year-old woman and two men, were hospitalized for medical treatment following the accident.
Traffic Chief Assistant Commissioner Mahendra Singh noted that this incident brings Guyana’s road death toll for the year to 103. In response to the crash, Singh recommended several safety improvements for the highway, including the installation of speed cameras, reflective road markings, rumble strips, and digital speed radar signs.
Families of the victims have expressed grief and raised concerns regarding allegations that personal belongings were looted from the victims at the scene before emergency responders arrived.
