Rosmah Mansor granted conditional stay on RM67.46 million jewelry lawsuit payment
The Kuala Lumpur High Court has granted Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor a conditional stay of execution regarding a RM67.46 million damages payment ordered to the Lebanese jewelry company, Global Royalty Trading SAL.
Judicial Commissioner Marianne Antoinette Ghani ruled that while the payment is suspended pending Rosmah’s appeal at the Court of Appeal, the funds must be deposited into a joint account managed by lawyers from both parties within one month. This arrangement is intended to protect the rights of the complainant and ensure the funds remain in Malaysia, making them available if the appeal fails.
The original judgment, delivered by High Court Judge Datuk Quay Chew Soon on June 10, found Rosmah liable for the loss of 43 pieces of jewelry. In addition to the damages, she was ordered to pay RM150,000 in costs.
