London arson attack: Four men plead guilty to torching Jewish ambulances
Four men have pleaded guilty at London’s Old Bailey to an arson attack that destroyed four Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green. The defendants—Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, Judex Atshatshi, 18, and Saif Ali, 18—admitted to destroying property and being reckless as to whether life would be endangered during the March 23 incident.
The attack caused approximately £1 million in damage. The fire caused gas canisters inside the vehicles to explode, which also damaged a nearby synagogue and residential flats. Prosecutors have suggested the incident has a “terrorist connection,” noting it was a premeditated and targeted strike against the Jewish community.
Counter-terrorism police have investigated potential links to Iranian proxies, following claims by the group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia. The Iranian Embassy in the UK has categorically rejected any involvement in violent incidents within the country.
A fifth defendant, Subhan Ahmed, 18, pleaded not guilty to assisting an offender and is scheduled for trial in January. Sentencing for the four men who pleaded guilty is expected in the spring of 2027.
