Four suspects processed for terrorism after 2025 car bomb attack on La Roca prison in Guayaquil

On 26 September 2025, a vehicle loaded with explosives detonated outside the Guayas No. 4 prison, known as La Roca, in the north of Guayaquil, Ecuador. The blast prompted an investigation by the Specialised Unit for Organized Crime (Unidot‑G) and the National Unit for the Fight against Organized Crime (ULCO).

After ten months, the Guayas prosecutor’s office filed terrorism charges (article 366 of the COIP) against four individuals – Ronny Alfredo S. G., Silvia Leonor T. C., Luis Marcos T. P. and Ariel Alejandro M. T., the latter already in detention. A judge ordered preventive imprisonment for all suspects. The case involved 14 search operations in Guayaquil and Yaguachi, seizure of two vehicles, 14 mobile phones, about US 7,000 in cash, and forensic analyses of explosive residues, security‑camera footage and biometric evidence.
