BIST 100 Opens Week Lower as Geopolitical Tensions Press Markets

Turkey’s BIST 100 index opened the new trading week down 44.89 points, a 0.32% decline to 13,936.16. The previous Friday had seen a 1.90% fall, closing at 13,981.05. Sector moves were mixed: the banking index was flat, the holdings index rose 0.14%, textile and leather gained 1.58%, while financial leasing and factoring slipped 9.04%. Analysts linked the weakness to ongoing U.S.–Iran military tensions that are dampening global risk appetite, and noted reduced Asian trading volume as Japan’s markets were closed for a holiday.

Investors are watching a series of Turkish macro releases, including the Central Bank of Turkey’s Market Participants Survey, the International Investment Position, and the foreign producer‑price index, alongside U.S. leading‑indicator data. Technical commentary points to a support level around 13,900 points and resistance near 14,200‑14,300 points.
