Four U.S. companies to invest $2 billion in South Korea
Four American companies in the semiconductor, advanced materials, and clean energy sectors have announced a total of $2 billion (approximately 2.8 trillion KRW) in foreign direct investment (FDI) into South Korea. The investment announcement was made during a ceremony and roundtable held in Washington, D.C., organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KOTRA.
Key projects include:
• Air Products: Expanding semiconductor gas supply facilities in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, including equipment for rare gases used in fine semiconductor processes.
• Excelis: Expanding its Korean plant to serve as an export hub for the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on ion implantation equipment.
• Corning: Strengthening manufacturing capabilities and introducing advanced material equipment for next-generation mobile devices and semiconductors.
• Pacifico Energy: Launching a 3.2GW offshore wind farm project in the Gwangju area of Jeonnam Province.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated it would actively support these companies to ensure South Korea remains an attractive investment destination and a gateway to global markets.
