Assam Factory Blast Kills Four, Triggers Arrests and NHRC Inquiry

An explosion at a metal‑processing factory in Cachar district, Assam, on July 26 killed four workers and severely injured two others. More than 100 workers were present when molten metal spilled after the blast. Families of the victims said similar incidents had occurred at the plant previously.

Five individuals were arrested in connection with the incident. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took suo motu cognisance, issuing notices to the Assam Chief Secretary and the Cachar Superintendent of Police. The NHRC has asked for a detailed report on the health of the injured, the status of compensation for the next of kin, and the overall investigation within two weeks.
