Fourna teacher refutes claims regarding family living conditions
Panagiota Diamanti, a teacher in the village of Fourna, has released a video to address inaccuracies regarding the living conditions of a large family that recently decided to leave the area. She specifically dismissed claims of rats and mice in the family's residence as “nonsense.”
According to Diamanti, the family initially resided in a home supported by the ‘New Life in the Village’ program. They later chose to move into a larger four-bedroom house that had been vacant for approximately 20 to 25 years. To facilitate the move, the family reached an agreement with the owner to live rent-free in exchange for performing necessary renovation works on the property.
Diamanti clarified that reports of pests referred only to the initial state of the house when it was first opened by a contractor after decades of closure, rather than the conditions during the family's actual residency. She emphasized that the family had begun renovations before moving in. Furthermore, she noted that the revitalization of rural villages requires more than just financial incentives or government programs; it requires families committed to staying and supporting the local community and schools.
