Fox Corporation to acquire Roku in $22 billion deal, reshaping free ad‑supported streaming

Fox Corporation announced a $22 billion acquisition of Roku, a move that will merge Fox's Tubi service with The Roku Channel. The combined operation is projected to control more than half of the United States free, ad‑supported streaming market, reaching over 100 million monthly active users.

The deal expands Fox's advertising reach and data capabilities, giving the company a dominant platform for both on‑demand and linear content. Analysts expect the merger to boost advertising revenue and give Fox leverage to negotiate new distribution models with sports leagues such as the NFL and MLB, as it can offer audiences a broader, integrated viewing experience across Roku devices, smart TVs and mobile apps.

Industry observers note that the consolidation comes as free streaming services continue to grow in popularity among budget‑conscious households, positioning Fox to compete directly with larger ecosystems while remaining free to consumers.
