Fox News hosts address extensive WNBA culture war coverage

A study by Media Matters found that Fox News dedicated 206 segments and over 13.5 hours of airtime to the WNBA between June 25 and August 11. The coverage frequently focused on culture war issues, such as race and transgender inclusion, rather than on-court play.

During a broadcast of ‘Fox & Friends’, hosts Brian Kilmeade and Lawrence Jones addressed the high volume of WNBA coverage. Kilmeade acknowledged the frequency of the discussions, while Jones suggested that the league’s focus on sideline drama and controversies is what forces the coverage, arguing that such issues prevent the league from being taken seriously compared to the NBA.
