Fox News viewership declines significantly ahead of midterms
Fox News is experiencing a substantial decline in viewership as the midterm elections approach. Preliminary Nielsen data indicates the network is on track for its weakest October in years, with total viewership projected to average 1.1 million, a 27% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
The decline is particularly pronounced in the advertiser-coveted 25-54 age demographic, which is seeing its lowest levels in 25 years, down approximately 32% to 36% year-over-year. While Fox News maintains its position as the most-watched cable news network, outperforming rivals like CNN and MSNBC, the trend contrasts with those competitors, which have reported modest viewership gains.
Analysts suggest the ratings slump may correlate with declining approval ratings for President Donald Trump and potentially waning enthusiasm among the Republican base. Additionally, the network has faced criticism from Trump himself regarding its coverage of certain Democratic candidates.
