Foxconn cyberattack hits North American factories, threatens AI server supply

Foxconn confirmed that on 13 May 2026 a cyber‑attack struck several of its North American manufacturing sites. Production at the affected plants was partially shut down while forensic teams and authorities were brought in. The company said the incident did not affect its Asian factories and its shares fell about three percent after the announcement.

The ransomware group Nitrogen claims to have exfiltrated roughly 8 TB of data – more than 11 million files – that include confidential designs and documentation from customers such as Apple, Nvidia, Intel, Google, Dell and Microsoft. Foxconn has not verified the theft, and the value and usability of the data remain unclear. Nitrogen’s own encryptor flaw makes decryption impossible even if a ransom were paid, raising doubts about the group’s credibility.

Analysts warn that the shutdown could create short‑term shortages of server components used in AI data‑centre builds, affecting the global supply chain for AI hardware supplied by Foxconn to companies like Nvidia and Microsoft.
