Foz do Iguaçu raids seize 1.1 tonnes of marijuana and launch online foreign‑vehicle fine system

Brazilian security forces seized more than 1.1 tonnes of marijuana during a joint operation by the Paraná Border Police Battalion (BPFRON) and the Federal Maritime Police in Foz do Iguaçu. The suspects attempted to flee by boat toward Paraguay but abandoned the vessel and escaped on foot. The drugs, valued at roughly R$ 2.27 million, were confiscated and handed over to the Federal Police.

The municipal traffic authority in Foz do Iguaçu also introduced an online portal allowing drivers of foreign‑registered vehicles, chiefly from Paraguay and Argentina, to check and pay outstanding traffic fines totaling over R$ 42 million. Vehicles with unpaid penalties face immediate impoundment during road checks.
