Brazil launches mental health and childhood cancer awareness campaigns

Various health awareness campaigns are active across Brazil during September. The ‘Setembro Amarelo’ (Yellow September) movement is focusing on mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Initiatives include municipal lectures for public servants in João Pessoa, specialized mental health support through CAPS and UBS networks in Maringá, and educational programs for children and adolescents in Cuiabá. The World Health Organization (WHO) has noted that one in seven adolescents globally lives with a mental disorder, highlighting the urgency of these efforts.

Simultaneously, ‘Setembro Dourado’ (Golden September) is promoting awareness for childhood and adolescent cancer. Campaigns in Ceará and Juazeiro do Norte emphasize the critical importance of early diagnosis, noting that survival rates can reach 80% with timely detection. In Argentina, a 14-year-old from Chaco is receiving treatment for a malignant synovial sarcoma at the Garrahan Hospital in Buenos Aires, highlighting the ongoing personal struggles associated with pediatric oncology.
