Foz do Iguaçu to receive new maternity hospital and border model facility
Foz do Iguaçu is set to receive a new maternity unit and the future Hospital Modelo de Fronteira. The project, presented by Gilmar de Oliveira, director-superintendent of the Itaiguapy Health Foundation, involves an estimated investment of R$ 82 million. Funding is expected through agreements between the Ministry of Health and Itaipu Binacional.
The new Itamed Maternity hospital will span approximately 7,000 square meters. The budget allocates R$ 70 million for civil works, R$ 5 million for equipment, and R$ 7 million for furniture. The facility will include a Pregnant Women's Care Center (CAGE), obstetric emergency services, neonatal and pediatric ICUs, humanized birth rooms, and joint accommodation.
This expansion aims to address high demand in the region, where the current hospital performs over 400 births per month—exceeding its projected capacity. The new structure will increase maternal-infant capacity to 460 births monthly. Additionally, moving services to the new building will allow for the revitalization of the current complex, creating 100 new beds. The project also intends to integrate the unit into the National Network of Intelligent Hospitals and High-Precision Medicine, utilizing artificial intelligence and integrated information systems.
