Foz do Iguaçu to receive new maternity ward and smart hospital technology

The Brazilian Ministry of Health will support the expansion of Hospital Itamed in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná. The facility is set to receive a new maternity ward and will join the National Network of Smart Hospitals and High Precision Medicine.

The new maternity structure will include a pregnant woman care center, obstetric emergency room, neonatal ICU and UCI, pediatric ICU, humanized labor rooms, and joint accommodation. Funding for the project is expected to come through agreements between the Ministry of Health and Itaipu Binacional.

As part of a modernization effort for the Unified Health System (SUS), the hospital will integrate digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and high-precision medicine. Itamed is the only unit in the country's interior selected for this project, alongside hospitals in Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo. This expansion is also intended to lay the groundwork for a future Border Model Hospital.
