FPÖ commemorates 40 years since Jörg Haider's leadership rise

The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) is holding a commemorative event in Innsbruck to mark the 40th anniversary of Jörg Haider’s election as party chairman. The event, titled “Aufbruch zur Spitze,” takes place in the same location where Haider defeated incumbent Norbert Steger in 1986, a move that transformed the FPÖ from a small liberal party into a mass populist movement and altered the landscape of the Second Republic.

FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl is using the anniversary to mobilize supporters under the theme of “Aufbruch an die Spitze” (Departure to the Top). The gathering aims to build momentum for the upcoming national council elections, with Kickl seeking to strengthen the party's position as a leading political force in Austria.
