FPÖ demands metropolitan allowance for Vienna police

The Vienna FPÖ has reiterated its demand for a “Großstadtzulage” (metropolitan allowance) for police officers serving in Vienna. Party leader Dominik Nepp proposed an extra monthly compensation of up to 1,500 euros per person.

Nepp cited high crime rates, frequent demonstrations, large-scale events, and the responsibility of protecting embassies as factors that place immense strain on the force. Additionally, the party expressed concerns regarding a new working time model, warning it could lead to a 30 percent reduction in income for some officers and result in fewer police officers being visible on the streets.

Stefan Berger, a non-office-holding FPÖ city councilor, noted that the police force is facing a personnel deficit due to resignations and retirements. He highlighted that more than 36 percent of all criminal reports are filed in Vienna.
