Azua police shootouts leave three suspects dead after attempted robbery
Three suspected assailants died following two shootouts with Dominican National Police agents during a pursuit in Azua province. The incident began when a group of five individuals attempted to rob a Caribe Express remittance branch in Sabana Yegua.
During the initial attempt, the suspects reportedly overpowered a security guard, stealing his firearm and personal belongings. However, they failed to access the area containing the money. Following the failed robbery, the suspects fled in a white Honda CR-V.
The pursuit led to a first confrontation near the Estebanía bridge, resulting in one death and one arrest. A second shootout occurred in the Palmar de Ocoa area, where two more suspects were wounded and subsequently died while receiving medical treatment. Authorities have seized an arsenal including a rifle, three pistols, 85 rounds of 9mm ammunition, bulletproof vests, and masks. One suspect remains at large as investigations continue.
