FPCCI supports Shahid Afridi Foundation and promotes olive cultivation
The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) has pledged its support to the Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) to bolster humanitarian efforts in Pakistan. During an event titled ‘An Evening with Shahid Afridi’, FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh committed to mobilizing the business community to assist SAF in its initiatives regarding health, education, housing, disaster relief, and clean water access.
Separately, Shahid Imran, Convener of the FPCCI Regional Committee on Food, stated that Pakistan could save approximately $6 billion in foreign exchange by expanding oilseed cultivation, specifically focusing on olives. Imran noted that while olive farming has seen growth in regions like Potohar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, the sector requires a complete value chain, including modern extraction units and quality laboratories, to become a strategic industry and reduce dependence on edible oil imports.
