FPHQ rejects temporary overtime pay deal for Quebec paramedics
The negotiation committee of the Fédération du préhospitalier du Québec (FPHQ) turned down a proposal from four employer associations that would have granted a double overtime rate for select hours worked between July 30 and September 15. Eligibility required paramedics to work a seven‑day schedule before and after a shift and to reach an 80‑hour paid threshold over two weeks.
FPHQ said the government has still not provided acceptable working conditions, notably a fair retirement scheme comparable to other health‑system employees, and therefore will not accept a short‑term agreement that does not address the core issues. The federation criticized the government's plan for a one‑month temporary deal while refusing the union’s request to keep the measure in place until the collective agreement is renewed.
