FQ-42 Vengeance drone delivered to Creech Air Force Base
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) has delivered a new FQ-42 Vengeance fighter drone to Creech Air Force Base in Nevada. The aircraft is part of the U.S. Air Force’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program, which focuses on developing uncrewed combat systems designed to operate alongside manned fighter jets.
The FQ-42 Vengeance is a fifth-generation uncrewed fighter featuring an internal weapons bay and low-observable characteristics to enhance survivability. It has previously conducted formation flights with F-35 Lightning II and F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft to test collaborative control capabilities. The aircraft can operate semi-autonomously or fully autonomously using various AI pilots.
GA-ASI reported that it has the capacity to deliver up to six aircraft per month and has established a new low-observable paint facility to support production. The company is currently utilizing its own funds to maintain production momentum while government financing plans are finalized. The CCA program has progressed from contractor selection to initial production in less than three years.
