Fraizer Campbell reveals snus addiction during football career

Former Manchester United and Premier League striker Fraizer Campbell has revealed he developed an addiction to snus, a tobacco-based nicotine product, during his professional football career.

Speaking on The Sports Agents podcast, the 39-year-old explained that he began using the product while playing for Crystal Palace between 2014 and 2017 to help him relax after matches. While he avoided use on match days to prevent excessive relaxation, the habit eventually spread to training days and increased in frequency following his retirement in 2022.

Campbell stated that he decided to quit after experiencing constant fatigue and realizing the habit offered no benefits. He reported being six months clean from the substance.

A study conducted by the University of Loughborough for the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) highlighted the prevalence of the issue, noting that 18% of male professional footballers currently use snus or nicotine pouches, while 42% have tried them in the past.
