Framework laptop price hikes tied to RAM shortage

Framework announced that a sudden cost increase from its DRAM supplier forced it to revise the memory configurations and pricing of its Laptop 13 Pro. The supplier’s LPCAMM2 modules now cost more than double the prior inventory, leaving the company with enough chips but not in the required mixes of 64 GB, 32 GB and 16 GB for existing pre‑orders. As a result, some customers received notices that their original configurations and prices had been changed, and the company offered the option to cancel orders with a full refund.

New pricing for the pre‑built Laptop 13 Pro reflects the supply shock and other cost pressures such as a pending Intel processor price rise and higher Windows licensing fees. The 16 GB model now starts at $1,599, up $100, while the 32 GB Ultra X7 358H version jumps to $2,899, an $800 increase from the launch price. AMD‑based models also see $200‑$600 hikes. Framework stated it will continue to use its existing lower‑cost inventory for the 16 GB configuration but expects further price adjustments for future orders.
