Framework updates Laptop 12 with Intel Core Series 3 processors

Framework has announced an update to its 12.2-inch convertible Framework Laptop 12, featuring Intel Core Series 3 processors (codenamed Wildcat Lake). The new hardware includes options for Core 3, Core 5, and Core 7 configurations.

Key upgrades include the addition of Thunderbolt 4 support on two expansion slots, Wi-Fi 7, a backlit keyboard, and fingerprint readers on the Core 5 and Core 7 models. The company claims the new processors significantly improve battery life, citing up to a 70% increase during 4K Netflix streaming compared to previous generations, despite using the same 50Wh battery.

In response to data showing that approximately 80% of existing Laptop 12 users run Linux, Framework is offering pre-installed Fedora 44 with the KDE Plasma desktop. Maintaining its focus on modularity, the company is also selling the new mainboards separately, allowing users of the first-generation Laptop 12 to upgrade their hardware without replacing the entire chassis.
