Frampol commemorates 87th anniversary of 1939 Luftwaffe bombing

The town of Frampol in Poland held ceremonies to mark the 87th anniversary of the German Luftwaffe bombing on September 13, 1939. The air raid, which involved between nine and twelve bombers, destroyed over 80 percent of the town's buildings, including its church tower.

Local officials, including Mayor Józef Rudy and Deputy Mayor Agnieszka Goral, joined community members to lay wreaths at the Monument to Regained Independence. The commemorations included a Holy Mass led by Father Tadeusz Bastrzyk and a historical picnic featuring a military exhibition and patriotic concerts.

Historical accounts note that the town, which had a significant Jewish population at the time, lacked military targets or railway lines, leading to ongoing debate regarding why it was targeted. During the raid, approximately 20 incendiary and high-explosive bombs were dropped on the settlement.
