Francavilla Fontana adopts new P.I.P. zone development plan
On 20 July the municipal council of Francavilla Fontana approved a new Piano Particolareggiato for the city’s P.I.P. (Produttiva Industriale e Produttiva) zone, an area of about 184 hectares along State road 7 Brindisi‑Taranto. The plan reorganises lot boundaries, upgrades internal roadways and creates new public service and green spaces to improve the area’s functionality for businesses and operators.
Key infrastructure works include a new road linking the old provincial Grottaglie‑Francavilla route with Viale del Commercio and Viale dell'Agricoltura, a revised alignment of Viale dell'Industria and a service road to access agricultural parcels. The plan prioritises sustainable development, excluding high‑impact activities such as auto‑demolition yards, hazardous waste treatment plants and similar facilities, while encouraging production, artisanal, commercial, logistics and service activities.
Funding for part of the works is expected from a €5.4 million grant sought under the ZES programme, with the total cost of the redevelopment estimated at around €20 million. The council’s adoption opens a 60‑day period for public observations before the plan can be fully implemented.
