France adjusts retirement age for citizens born 1964-1968
Following the suspension of the 2023 pension reform, new rules in France allow certain generations to retire earlier than previously scheduled. Starting September 1, 2026, individuals born between 1964 and 1968 may benefit from an advancement of three to six months on their legal retirement age, depending on their specific birth date.
For example, those born in 1964 may see the legal age drop from 63 to 62 years and 9 months. Individuals born in early 1965 could see a six-month reduction. However, for those born in 1969 or later, the legal retirement age remains fixed at 64.
In conjunction with these changes, the Service des retraites de l’État (SRE) has launched a campaign for employees born in 1967 to verify their career data. These individuals are encouraged to log into their ENSAP (Espace Numérique Sécurisé des Agents Publics) accounts to ensure their individual retirement accounts are accurate and complete. This verification process is intended to ensure reliable pension simulations and facilitate smoother retirement transitions.
