France adjusts retirement age for long-career workers

In France, a change in retirement scheduling has taken effect for certain workers who began their careers at a young age. Following the suspension of parts of the 2023 pension reform, individuals born between 1964 and 1970 who are eligible for the “long career” (carrière longue) scheme may now retire up to three months earlier than previously planned.

To qualify, workers must have completed a specific number of quarters before reaching a certain age, such as five quarters before the end of the year they turned 20. While this measure allows for an earlier departure date, the total required contribution period remains unchanged at 172 quarters for those in the affected age brackets. For example, a person born in 1966 can now retire at 60 years and 9 months instead of 61.
