France advice on reading detailed repair and construction estimates

Two consumer‑focused guides explain how to interpret detailed cost estimates for vehicle repairs and building work. The car‑repair guide warns that phrases such as “sous réserve de démontage” (SRD) or “complément après expertise” indicate that additional charges may appear after parts are removed, and advises customers to request written clarification of any possible price ranges.

The construction‑quote guide stresses that any estimate above €150 must be provided in writing and include mandatory information: issue date, validity period, company name and SIRET number, client details, itemised labour and material costs, applicable VAT, and the contractor’s décennale insurance number. It recommends obtaining at least three comparable quotes to spot unusually low or high offers and to compare scope, materials, and payment schedules before signing.
