France allocates €21.4 million to six maritime decarbonization projects

The French government has awarded 21.4 million euros to six industrial projects under the ‘CORIMER Navire Bas-Carbone’ call for projects, part of the France 2030 initiative managed by ADEME. This funding brings the total number of supported projects to nine, with a cumulative investment of 28.2 million euros.

The selected projects focus on diverse decarbonization technologies for the maritime sector. Key initiatives include the GDS 3 project by Grain de Sail Shipping and Chantiers de l’Atlantique, which aims to develop a 162-meter container ship utilizing wind propulsion. Another project, EO3 by Energy Observer, will create a laboratory vessel to test multi-energy chains involving low-carbon sources such as ammonia.

Other technological focuses include the Searenity project, a collaboration involving Naval Group and CMA CGM to develop autonomous underwater drones for biofouling removal, and the Vectra project, which aims to produce fast electric pilot boats for French ports. Additionally, the Corsica Favorite 2025 project seeks to develop a zero-fossil-fuel passenger vessel for Corsican crossings, targeting an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger.
