France allocates 300 million euros for Alpes 2030 transport

The French state and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region have signed a funding protocol to invest 300 million euros into transport infrastructure for the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The funding will be split equally, with 150 million euros provided by each party.

The investment aims to facilitate movement for athletes and the approximately two million visitors expected during the Games, while modernizing existing networks to reduce car dependency. The budget is allocated as follows:

• 103 million euros for the rail network, including the renovation of the Grenoble-Veynes line and improving accessibility at key stations such as Albertville, Bourg-Saint-Maurice, Aime-La-Plagne, and Montmélia. • 73 million euros for the road network, specifically focusing on the security and resilience of the RN90 access route. • 124 million euros for soft and alternative mobility, including valley elevators, cable cars, and cycling paths.

The agreement was signed in Albertville by Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot, Sports Minister Marina Ferrari, and Regional President Fabrice Panecoucke. The initiative is intended to leave a lasting infrastructure legacy for the mountain territories beyond 2030.
