Extreme weather impacts France, Morocco, and Haiti
Multiple regions are facing severe weather conditions, including intense heatwaves, heavy rainfall, and high forest fire risks.
In France, a heatwave persists in the south-east, with temperatures reaching up to 39.4°C in some areas. Several departments, including Var, Bouches-du-Rhône, and Vaucluse, are under red alert for forest fire risks. In the Gard department, 252 communes are under high risk. Additionally, severe storms have caused flooding and mudslides in Andorra and parts of France, with some areas experiencing 80 mm of rain in a single hour.
In Morocco, the DGM has issued orange alerts for thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds following a period of extreme heat where temperatures reached up to 48°C. In Haiti, high temperatures and Saharan dust are expected to persist, with maximums between 34 and 38°C.
In Algeria, authorities are preparing for autumn rains by coordinating the maintenance of drainage networks and cleaning waterways to prevent flooding.
