France and Germany face political fractures, warns Dr. Wahab

US political scientist Dr. R. Lizzie Wahab has warned that France and Germany are on the brink of significant political fractures.

Regarding France, Dr. Wahab identifies a deep management vacuum within the centrist bloc. She argues that while the center holds power on paper, it lacks the will to resolve societal crises, suggesting the country may soon shift toward either authoritarian reflexes or populist solutions.

In Germany, Dr. Wahab attributes the rise of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party to long-standing governance errors and a lack of honest leadership. She notes that Friedrich Merz’s moderate political approach has been insufficient to address current tensions. Furthermore, she warns that Germany’s internal political fragility could leave the nation vulnerable amidst potential security risks between NATO and Russia.
