France and Haiti discuss security, elections, and economic stability

French Ambassador Gautier Lekens held high-level meetings in Haiti to discuss security, elections, and economic stability.

In a meeting with Haitian Foreign Minister Raina Forbin, discussions focused on the country’s security situation and the upcoming electoral process. Key topics included the renewal of the mandate for the Gang Repression Force (FRG) by the UN Security Council and the importance of its full deployment. The officials also addressed a Franco-Mexican initiative regarding the use of the veto in the Security Council during mass atrocities. Haiti continues to prioritize elections, with the Provisional Electoral Council preparing for a vote scheduled for December.

Additionally, Ambassador Lekens met with Ronald Gabriel, Governor of the Banque de la République d’Haïti (BRH), to examine the nation’s economic and financial challenges. The talks covered economic perspectives for the coming months and reinforced existing cooperation in professional training, including Master’s and doctoral mobility programs aimed at developing Haitian professional skills.
