France and Ireland announce agricultural support measures

Governments in France and Ireland are implementing various financial support measures to assist farmers facing rising costs and environmental challenges.

In the Jura region of France, authorities have announced aid totaling several million euros to mitigate the impact of summer droughts. Measures include property tax relief on non-built land, with reductions of 30% for arable land, 50% for vineyards, and 55% for meadows. Additionally, a direct aid fund for rearmament is being established, and fuel assistance programs have been extended. Prefect Pierre-Edouard Colliex is also seeking national solidarity compensation for spring crop losses.

In Ireland, the government is considering a support package of approximately €60 million ahead of the upcoming budget to address concerns over fuel, fodder, and fertilizer costs. Plans include potentially extending the fuel income support scheme for agricultural workers by up to five months. These discussions, involving Taoiseach Simon Harris and other ministers, aim to alleviate cost-of-living pressures and prevent further agricultural protests.
