France and Japan engage in online dispute following civil unrest

A viral dispute has erupted between French and Japanese social media users on X, triggered by recent protests in France. The conflict escalated after videos of unrest in France showed demonstrators using the Straw Hat Pirates flag from the anime ‘One Piece’ as a symbol of resistance.

Japanese users criticized the violence and linked it to immigration, prompting angry responses from French-speaking users. The online clash has expanded to include debates over national stereotypes, Japanese work culture, and manga piracy.

Adding to the tension, reports surfaced of a long-standing anime and hobby shop in France being looted and destroyed during the protests. This incident has drawn international condemnation, with many observers distinguishing the acts of looting from the original goals of the demonstrations.
