France and Nigeria strengthen economic and cultural ties

French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, Franck Riester, has reaffirmed France's commitment to deepening trade and economic relations with Nigeria. During a visit to the AIM Group media conglomerate, Riester highlighted the importance of fostering intra-cultural relationships, particularly within Nigeria's growing music and film industries.

The French government is supporting Nigerian creative sectors through initiatives such as the Solidarity Fund for Innovative Projects. Notable collaborations include the Annecy Lagos Animation Workshop and the Wazobia Academy, which aims to train 1,000 young Nigerian professionals in TV scriptwriting in partnership with French institutions like La FEMIS and LAFAAAC.

Despite recent volatility of the naira, Nigeria remains a strategic market for France, which maintains over one hundred companies in the country, including TotalEnergies and CMA CGM. While currency depreciation presents challenges, some experts suggest it has increased international competitiveness for certain exporters. Investors are encouraged to maintain a long-term perspective, noting that recent reforms and the operations of the Dangote refinery may improve access to foreign exchange.
