France and UK conduct first joint nuclear deterrence exercise

British Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon jets participated in a simulated nuclear strike exercise alongside French Rafale fighters for the first time. The maneuver, named ‘Rummy’, took place on October 20 and 21, 2026, over France and the Mediterranean.

During the exercise, the Typhoons provided conventional defensive air cover for the French Rafale aircraft, which were simulating a long-range nuclear strike mission. The operation focused on improving interoperability, communication, and flight procedures between the two allied air forces.

While the exercise demonstrates closer military cooperation, both nations emphasized that they maintain independent and sovereign nuclear deterrents. No actual nuclear weapons were used during the drills.
